Neither type is automatically dirtier. What matters is age since the last cleaning, household conditions, and whether anything unusual has happened — renovation work, water intrusion, pest activity.

- Dust returning to surfaces faster than it should
- A musty smell when the system first runs
- Rooms that don't hold temperature the way they used to
